They carefully make the most amazing courses and joyfully eat fantastic meals. If you didn't know, I am a big (like, real big) lover of food. Small and big events happen, someone gets lost, there's a wedding, they create a winter ball with ice skating. ![]() ![]() It really is beautiful.Īs I said above, we follow the activities of the Brambly Hedge community of field mice through the seasons. I never fail to be inspired by the sweet little stories and delightful artwork. Jill Barklem packs so many tiny and wonderful details in each beautifully illustrated page, every child (count me in too) will get lost in the pictures over and over again. The four stories were originally published separately, but here's an introduction of the author about the origins and developments of the stories. My favorites were Autumn and Spring, yes I must admit I am a Spring baby through and through. It is divided into different seasons, so we have 4 parts: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. ![]() ![]() The gangs, or perhaps clans is a better term, are all family based. I could say more about the actual setting but just know that the world is very fleshed out–everything from commerce to culture is presented here. I love the setting and the whole ‘gang’/’mafia’ culture the story revolves around. Let’s start with the good! The world building here is fantastic. I’m not exactly sure why this one didn’t click with me and I’m pretty bummed about not being more excited about it. I think it’s definitely a case of it being me and not the book. It’s hard for me to review this book because I know so many people loved it and it just felt…very okay to me. When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself. The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion–but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection. It’s the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities. The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While Crichton’s novels may not be every Jurassic Park fan’s cup of tea, it has kept me revisiting these books again and again over the years. The Jurassic Park and The Lost World novels are more mature, more cerebral, more complex, and have a grimly violent edge to them that has been very much softened onscreen. While I absolutely adore director Steven Spielberg’s classic film and can even appreciate the sequels that followed, as a Jurassic Park fan, there have always been many scenes, events, and character elements from Crichton’s novels that I’ve preferred over the cinematic adaptions. Since my teenage years, I’ve been both a massive fan of Jurassic Park and of author Michael Crichton himself. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As Agnes ventures forth, a mysterious connection grows between her and the Virus.
